Poem: Repeat.

We sit

Side by side

In your room.

I am smiling

But my heart

Braces for

Impending gloom.

Music plays

On the speakers

From your iPod.

I nod along

As I say

A silent prayer

To God.

To help me get

Through this day.

To finally tell you

What I need

To say.

I listen as

You hum along

To Sade’s

‘Sweetest Taboo’,

And suddenly

Breaking up

Doesn’t feel like

The right thing

To do.

Just as the song ends,

I say

‘Please put it on repeat’.

Your smile

Makes me feel like

I’ve achieved a

Great feat.

I sigh as the song

Starts to play,

I’ll save this

For another day.
